In this presentation, Dr. Gary Fowmes will explore the forefront of geosynthetics innovation from a UK perspective. The study focuses on analyzing the application of geosynthetics in practical engineering, with an emphasis on advancements in instrumentation, the role of sustainability in design, and strategies for addressing microplastic pollution. The presentation reveals the critical role of real-time monitoring systems and fibre optic technologies in enhancing design efficiency and disaster recovery. It also discusses how the integration of carbon calculators and recycled polymers can improve the environmental sustainability and long-term performance of geosynthetics.
专家简介：
Gary Fowmes博士，华威大学土木工程系教授，国际知名岩土工程学者。前英国土工合成材料协会主席，已主持多项大型国际科研项目。研究方向为土工合成材料界面快速成型，废物控制，边坡稳定性预警系统，利用外加剂进行可持续建设和土壤改良。并在《Geotextiles and Geomembranes》、《Engineering Geology》、《Géotechnique》、《Canadian Geotechnical Journal》等国际知名期刊发表超过50余篇高质量论文。Gary Fowmes教授曾在FCC Environment、Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency、Golder Associates (UK) Ltd - Nottingham, UK等国际知名岩土工程咨询公司工作，现任英国土木工程师学会；高等教育学会；国际土工合成材料学会；英国土工协会；国际土力学与岩土工程学会成员。
