To further smooth the communication channel between teachers and students, answer students’ academic questions and clarify career paths, the College of Marine Science and Engineering successfully held the first “Meet Teachers Face to Face” on-site Q&A activity at the One-Stop Student Community on October 15. Delivered by Teacher Liu Guangzhong from the Naval Architecture Department, the session was open to all students from freshmen to seniors, providing targeted guidance and Q&A on curriculum study, scientific innovation, postgraduate admission and employment.

During the exchange, Teacher Liu emphasized that undergraduate courses lay an important foundation for professional development. Students should grasp key points of each course, consolidate academic basics and uphold the learning-oriented mindset. Addressing the common concern of balancing GPA improvement and participation in undergraduate innovation projects, he pointed out clearly that classroom performance should take priority over innovation practice, and students should avoid reversing the order of priority. Taking part in innovation projects only when they have spare capacity can deepen professional understanding, sharpen specialized skills and accumulate research experience, which contributes positively to all-round development.

Regarding the choice between postgraduate entrance examination and employment, he offered practical suggestions based on industry realities. Students may make flexible plans according to their own conditions: those with good job opportunities can choose to work directly to gain experience and grow rapidly; those who wish to delve deeper into the discipline for long-term development may pursue postgraduate study to enhance their competitiveness.

Catering to the preparation needs of junior students for further study, Teacher Liu provided one-on-one guidance based on their learning status and personal conditions. He helped them identify target universities, set the schedule and phased tasks for exam preparation, effectively relieving anxiety and clarifying preparation priorities.

Responding precisely to students’ growth needs, this “Meet Teachers Face to Face” activity helped resolve academic confusion for students of all grades. Moving forward, the college will carry out regular academic support and growth guidance through featured activities such as “Meet Teachers Face to Face” and “Help from HKE”, supporting students to make steady progress and forge ahead toward their goals.
