To steadily advance employment support for graduating students and effectively address practical difficulties in their job-hunting, in late September, Ding Yi, part-time faculty counsellor of the College of Marine Science and Engineering, offered guidance during the evening roll call. Giving full play to his professional and industrial advantages, he tailored coaching plans according to students’ majors and individual characteristics, provided personalized resume optimization guidance and targeted job referrals, and helped students improve their job-hunting skills and clarify career directions in an all-round way.
During the resume coaching session, Ding Yi gave careful one-on-one guidance based on each student’s job target and personal experience. He guided students to systematically sort out their academic performance, scientific and innovative achievements and practical experience accumulated at college, and fully explore their highlights and core competencies. He stressed that achievements should be supported by specific cases and data instead of vague descriptions. Meanwhile, he polished their resumes in details including format standards, content logic and post matching, helping students create targeted resumes that highlight strengths. In this way, students can fully demonstrate their comprehensive competence of integrating learning, thinking and practice, and improve the competitiveness of their application materials.
To resolve confusion over career planning, Ding Yi sorted out career paths and answered employment questions in light of industrial trends and employment prospects of relevant majors. He encouraged students to take the initiative in job hunting, submit applications, attend offline job fairs and connect with enterprises to gain experience and expand employment channels. He also suggested that students communicate more with academic and research supervisors to keep up with cutting-edge industry information and obtain reliable employment resources.
At the end of the activity, Ding Yi shared a message for all graduating students: “Start job hunting early and keep up your studies.” He encouraged them to begin with resume revision, take steady steps in job seeking, and face recruitment challenges with a positive attitude and adequate preparation. He believed that with solid professional knowledge and persistent efforts, students would achieve satisfying outcomes in the graduation season and fulfil their goals of reaping fruitful learning results and promising futures.
This employment support activity is a concrete measure for the college to deepen employment-oriented education and implement the initiative of "delivering practical services for teachers and students". The targeted frontline service provided by the part-time faculty counsellor effectively closes the "last mile" of employment guidance and safeguards high-quality employment for the 2023 graduating cohort of the college.
