Led by Teacher Yao Xin from the Department of Marine Environment, volunteers from the Pioneer Service Team of the Marine Environment Student Party Branch and the Volunteer Service Department of the Ecological Civilization Study Society visited Lingang Mingzhu Primary School for a science popularization activity themed “Blueprinting Dreams for a Strong Maritime Nation and a Powerful Navy”. The volunteers introduced marine military theories and the principles of vehicle fabrication to young pupils. The activity aimed to cultivate pupils’ hands‑on skills, observation and expression abilities, foster their love for the university and patriotism from an early age, strengthen their awareness and sense of mission for the navy, the ocean and a sound ecological environment, and nurture future talents for building a powerful marine nation.
This joint volunteer science outreach activity is an important part of the multi-dimensional “Party-Youth League-Community” education practice of the marine environment discipline. It integrates theory with practice, helping participants fulfill their professional mission and deepen their recognition of their major.
Fang Yujie, a freshman representative of the Environmental Engineering Class of 2026, shared his thoughts. He said that he learned about the multi-dimensional education practice of marine environment in the course Introduction to Environmental Science and Engineering after admission, and then joined the Ecological Civilization Study Society for professional training. This was his first field practice together with senior students. He not only met like-minded peers, but also realized the educational mission and social responsibility of Environmental Engineering. By helping primary school students understand the significance of building a powerful marine nation and ecological civilization, he gained a deeper recognition of his major. “I want to learn this major well to help more people and contribute to building a beautiful China and marine ecological civilization.”
In the next stage, the college will systematically integrate ecological civilization education into professional courses, marine science lectures for primary and secondary schools, themed marine science research activities and summer care programs. It will earnestly deliver practical services for teachers and students, build a coordinated multi-dimensional education model for marine science popularization, and support local science outreach initiatives and the construction of a modern marine city.
