To integrate Party building with professional practice and advance the development of the model Party branch, the Marine Materials Postgraduate Party Branch organized its outstanding Party members to conduct an on-site study tour at Jiangnan Shipyard of CSSC. By visiting this key national shipbuilding enterprise, the activity aimed to guide Party members to closely link their professional expertise with the demands of major national projects.

On the morning of September 24, Party members of the branch arrived at Jiangnan Shipyard on Changxing Island and visited the Jiangnan Shipyard Exhibition Hall. Precious historical photos and exquisite ship models vividly recounted the leap-forward development of China’s shipbuilding industry, which started from ship repair and gradually achieved the independent construction of high-tech vessels including aircraft carriers and LNG carriers.

Afterwards, the branch members went deep into the production site and inspected large dry docks, block fabrication workshops and coating workshops. Technical staff introduced the whole shipbuilding process and elaborated on the critical applications of marine materials in hull structural steel, anti-corrosion coatings, welding consumables and lightweight design of deep-sea equipment.

Combining their research on weathering steel and functional coatings, the Party members had in-depth discussions with enterprise engineers regarding material performance optimization and service environment adaptability. They shared that theories learned from textbooks became tangible and vivid when facing massive hull components, gaining a more intuitive and profound understanding that “materials lay the foundation for equipment manufacturing”.

Sun Kai, Secretary of the Party Branch, stated that this field trip to Jiangnan Shipyard served as a vivid lesson on national conditions as well as targeted professional guidance. Close exposure to industrial frontiers helped Party members better identify where their research aligns with national needs.

This activity forms part of the branch’s efforts to build a model Party branch. Moving forward, the branch will keep leveraging disciplinary strengths to synchronize Party building with scientific innovation, contributing youthful strength to the development of a powerful marine nation through practical actions.
