To consolidate academic atmosphere development, regulate students’ conduct and strengthen dormitory safety management so as to support students through the critical sophomore year, the College of Marine Science and Engineering organized a themed evening roll call for the Class of 2025 focusing on academic performance analysis and comprehensive education. Delivered by Counsellor Peng Yujie and attended by all students of the Class of 2025, the session carried out targeted education and guidance centering on three priorities: academic improvement, ideological development and dormitory safety.

Review Academic Performance and Foster a Sound Academic Ethic

At the roll call, comparing with the failure statistics of sophomores in the first semester of last academic year, the counsellor reviewed the overall academic status of the grade, sorted out the failure rate of each class, high-risk courses and academically vulnerable groups, and accurately identified common academic weaknesses and learning problems. Students were encouraged to take an active part in discipline competitions to boost learning, make up for academic deficiencies and foster a competitive and positive academic atmosphere across the grade.

Stay True to the Original Aspiration for Party Membership and Standardize the Conduct of Student Cadres

Targeting issues related to students’ ideology and class construction, the session laid emphasis on education about motives for Party membership and the conduct of class cadres. With real cases, it corrected utilitarian perceptions of joining the Party and guided Party membership applicants to develop a pure aspiration of dedication and serving the collective. Requirements for the performance of duties by class cadres were clarified, urging student backbones to set an example, take initiative, and take the lead in improving class academic performance and daily management.

Stick to the Safety Bottom Line and Rectify Bad Habits in Dormitories

To reinforce dormitory safety management, the counsellor delivered safety warning education, focusing on electricity use, fire prevention and dormitory regulations, with special stress on the no-smoking rule in dormitories. All students were required to abide by dormitory management rules, supervise each other, take the initiative to check for potential safety hazards, and jointly build a solid campus safety barrier.

Focusing precisely on the key difficulties in the growth of sophomore students, this evening roll call helped students recognize academic gaps, correct ideological conduct and strengthen safety awareness. It consolidated the college’s integrated education foundation covering academic atmosphere, conduct and safety, and supported the Class of 2025 in steady academic progress and all-round development.
