To raise students’ awareness of tobacco control, help them understand the postgraduate recommendation procedure and make academic plans, the themed educational evening roll call titled “Take the Ocean as the Scroll, Answer with Action” for undergraduate students of the Class of 2024 of the College of Marine Science and Engineering was successfully held on the evening of October 11, 2026. Hosted by Teacher Zhu Diyao, the activity invited Sun Hao from Class Ship 231 to share his experience of securing postgraduate recommendation.

In the tobacco control education session, Teacher Zhu delivered a speech on “Abide by Tobacco Control Rules and Be Civilized College Students”. He introduced the health hazards of smoking and second-hand smoke, and warned students against fire risks caused by careless smoking. In accordance with the university’s tobacco control regulations, he clarified the smoking ban for indoor areas such as classrooms, laboratories and dormitories. He emphasized that students must not cover smoke detectors or hinder the normal operation of fire-fighting facilities, and guided everyone to abide by campus rules voluntarily to jointly maintain a safe and healthy study and living environment.

During the sharing session on postgraduate recommendation, senior student Sun Hao drew on his own experience and sorted out two key stages: obtaining the recommendation quota at our university and passing assessments of target universities. He introduced the main procedures including summer camps, pre-recommendation applications and registration and confirmation on the postgraduate recommendation system. He explained information collection, university selection, document preparation, contacting supervisors and interview arrangements. He suggested that students set realistic goals based on personal conditions, keep track of official notices and follow the annual admission brochures.

As for preparations at the current stage, Sun Hao reminded students to attach importance to academic scores and major rankings, improve English proficiency as early as possible, and build up demonstrable research or competition experience. For application materials, he shared tips on writing resumes and personal statements. He advised students to learn about supervisors’ research fields according to their own interests, highlight the match between personal experience and the applied research direction, organize documents in advance and arrange interview schedules, so that long-term accumulation can be realized through daily study.

This evening roll call further strengthened students’ awareness of civility and safety. It also provided references for them to learn about the postgraduate recommendation process and clarify preparation priorities. It is hoped that students will voluntarily comply with the requirements for a smoke-free campus, focus on current studies and make steady progress to get well prepared for future development.
