To help students clarify their learning objectives and development plans for the junior year, the thematic education roll call themed “Based on Learning, Steering the Course” for 2024-cohort undergraduates of the College of Marine Science and Engineering was successfully held on the evening of September 13. The session covered academic performance analysis, future planning, administrative matters at the start of the semester and safety education. The activity was presided over by counselor Zhu Diyao. Ms.

Zhu first reviewed the overall academic performance of the second semester of the sophomore year, and conducted an in-depth analysis of grades and key courses for each major and class. She guided students to face up to academic weaknesses and arrange their courses scientifically. Meanwhile, referring to data on postgraduate recommendation and outstanding examples, she emphasized the coordinated accumulation of academic grades, comprehensive evaluation results and achievements in research competitions. This helped students identify their strengths and weaknesses and formulate personalized improvement plans.

In the section on future planning, based on diverse development pathways including postgraduate admission, employment, civil service and public institution recruitment, Ms. Zhu encouraged students to define their primary goals and prepare flexible backup plans guided by their interests, built on their capabilities and in light of real-world conditions. By carefully checking training programs and credit completion status, and sorting out research projects and practical experience, she guided students to break down long-term goals into phased tasks, which should be fulfilled through coursework, competency development and output of deliverables. Students are expected to ease anxiety through practical actions, maintain regular schedules and actively seek available support.

Thereafter, Ms. Zhu gave detailed reminders on key administrative matters at the beginning of the semester, including student ID registration, timetable verification, course add/drop, CET-4 and CET-6 registration, and submission of documents for comprehensive evaluation. She also interpreted the national student loan policy, introducing the procedures for application, extension and repayment confirmation. Students in need were reminded to submit documents properly via the online service center and keep track of the review progress and deadlines.

This roll call clarified learning tasks and development paths for the new semester and further strengthened students’ awareness of safety prevention. It is hoped that all students will take solid academic performance as the foundation, translate plans into actions, make steady progress in the junior year, and embrace future challenges and opportunities with greater confidence.
