On July 3, the 18th Student Congress and the 5th Postgraduate Congress of the College of Marine Science and Engineering were successfully held in the COSCO Lecture Hall. Dong Chaoqun, Deputy Party Secretary of the college, attended and delivered a speech. League branch secretaries, counselors, Feng Yuting, member of the Presidium of the University Postgraduate Union, and all student representatives participated in the conference. The congress officially kicked off with the solemn national anthem.
On behalf of the college Party committee, Dong Chaoqun congratulated the successful convening of the congress and extended sincere greetings to all young students of the college. He pointed out that the Student Congress and Postgraduate Congress are major political events in the campus life of all students and a vivid practice of whole-process people’s democracy in the university. He put forward four expectations for student representatives and new student organization backbone members. First, firmly uphold ideals and convictions, foster aspirations for marine development, and integrate personal growth into the national strategy of building a powerful maritime nation. Second, devote themselves to professional study and skill improvement, make full use of the college’s complete disciplinary system and industry-university-research practice platforms, and grow into high-quality interdisciplinary marine engineering talents. Third, adhere to the original intention of serving students, act as a bridge between teachers and students, enrich college characteristic activities, and build a reliable student organization. Fourth, cultivate marine feelings, inherit the university spirit of inclusiveness and excellence, and actively participate in the construction of Chinese modernization with a global vision. He encouraged all students to seize opportunities of the times and demonstrate youth responsibility with solid efforts.
Feng Yuting, member of the Presidium of the University Postgraduate Union, delivered a speech. She fully affirmed the fruitful achievements of the college’s student union and postgraduate union in the past year. She expressed the willingness to further strengthen communication and cooperation with college student organizations, and put forward practical suggestions for the high-quality development of the college’s student organizations based on university-level work experience.
In accordance with relevant regulations, the congress reviewed and adopted the Work Report of the 17th Student Union, the Work Report of the 9th Postgraduate Union of the College of Marine Science and Engineering, as well as the list of vote supervisors and counters. Through anonymous differential voting, members of the Presidium of the 18th Student Union and the 10th Postgraduate Union were elected. At the closing ceremony, appointment certificates were issued to former presidiums and minister team members in recognition of their dedicated work in the previous term.
Guided by the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, the congress serves as an important platform for young students to participate in campus democratic governance and practice whole-process people’s democracy. It comprehensively summarized previous student work achievements and clarified future development priorities, laying a solid foundation for the standardized and high-quality development of college student organizations, and providing strong organizational and spiritual support for the growth and progress of all college students.
