To enrich the forms of campus cultural practice and display the professional characteristics and disciplinary charm of the college, the College of Marine Science and Engineering has organized a themed embankment painting activity. Held at Nanhui Mouth Seaside Park in Pudong, the activity features creative creation centered on the college’s professional strengths.

The preparation work kicked off in early April, including on-site investigation, art material purchase and pattern design. The official painting phase started in May, with five rounds of on-site creation completed in total. Co-organized by the Youth League Committees of the College of Marine Science and Engineering and Xu Beihong School of Art, the activity gathered student volunteers from CMSE and professional teachers and students from the art school. With professional line sketching support from art majors, all participants cooperated efficiently to advance the mural painting work. The painting designs focus on the college’s four core majors: port, waterway and coastal engineering, environmental engineering, materials science and engineering, as well as naval architecture and ocean engineering. Integrating disciplinary characteristics, industry features and professional connotations, the murals ingeniously combine professional knowledge with artistic innovation, vividly presenting the college’s disciplinary layout and talent cultivation characteristics in the field of marine engineering.

The on-site creation was well-organized with clear divisions of labor. All participants cooperated tacitly, refined every detail and adjusted colors carefully. Through in-depth communication and mutual improvement during the creation process, students deepened their understanding of various majors and gained great pleasure from hands-on practical creation and teamwork.

After multiple rounds of on-site painting, the embankment mural project was successfully completed. Adopting a blue tone as the main visual color and integrated with characteristic professional patterns, the formerly plain embankment has been completely renewed, becoming a unique scenic spot in the park that integrates professional heritage and artistic beauty.

With art as the carrier, this embankment painting activity vividly displays the college’s professional demeanor. It has not only improved students’ practical ability and team spirit, but also strengthened their professional identity and collective cohesion. Meanwhile, it contributes to the construction of Lin-gang Special Area as a modern coastal city featuring international style, futuristic vision and charming maritime and lake scenery. In the future, the college will continue to carry out characteristic practical activities, build diversified growth platforms for students, guide students to explore and grow through practice, further enrich college cultural construction, and highlight the educational philosophy and disciplinary characteristics of marine disciplines.
