To further deepen the integration of industry and education, build a school-enterprise collaborative education platform, and help students connect professional knowledge with industrial demands, the College of Marine Science and Engineering organized a social practice activity on July 8, 2026. Led by Lei Yan Hua, Director of the Materials Department, Zhang Fuhua, Secretary of the Materials Faculty Party Branch, and counselor Lei Mengyu, 12 members of the "SMU Submarine Cable Pioneer Practice Team" visited Zhejiang Sixiong Rope Industry Co., Ltd. for research and exchange.

Li Yanxi, General Manager of Zhejiang Sixiong Rope Industry Co., Ltd., extended a warm welcome to the teachers and students. He introduced the company’s development history, strategic layout and core businesses. Starting from fishery plant fiber rope manufacturing, the enterprise has grown into China’s largest chemical fiber rope manufacturer. He focused on the company’s technical layout, current situation and future plans in the field of deep-water mooring ropes, shared the industrial changes and technological breakthroughs of the chemical fiber rope industry in recent years, and expressed the willingness to further strengthen school-enterprise communication and recruit outstanding graduates from the university.

On behalf of the college, Lei Yanhua thanked the enterprise for its warm reception. He briefly introduced the college’s discipline construction, talent training achievements and industry-education integration progress. He pointed out that the college’s professional development is highly compatible with the enterprise’s industrial layout. Both sides will establish a regular communication mechanism, give full play to resource advantages, and carry out in-depth cooperation in talent training, industry-university-research collaboration and other fields to achieve high-quality and mutually beneficial development.

During the seminar, enterprise technical backbones shared professional knowledge in material modification, process optimization, tension testing and fatigue life evaluation. Enterprise leaders answered students’ questions about career planning, ability training and job recruitment in detail, helping students fully understand the industrial situation and employment prospects. During the visit, the practice team went deep into the production line, visiting the automatic rope production system and independently developed testing equipment. The team gained an intuitive understanding of the production process, technical standards and intelligent manufacturing mode of high-end marine ropes.

As a leading domestic enterprise in the chemical fiber rope industry, Zhejiang Sixiong Rope Industry Co., Ltd. has made outstanding achievements in high-end deep-water mooring ropes. Many of its products have broken international monopolies and realized domestic substitution. The enterprise has set up scholarships in the university for more than ten years and has established a solid foundation for talent training and technological cooperation.

This activity builds a bridge between campus learning and industrial practice. In the next step, the college will continue to promote school-enterprise integration, carry out practical research activities on a regular basis, optimize the talent training model based on industrial needs, and guide students to integrate professional knowledge with practical capabilities to grow into high-quality talents for the development of the marine industry.
