On September 11, the orientation work for the 2026 postgraduate students of the College of Marine Science and Engineering, Shanghai Maritime University, came to a successful conclusion. Postgraduate freshmen from all over the country completed their registration smoothly and officially started their scientific research and study life at SMU.
To ensure the orderly, efficient and safe progress of the orientation work, the college made overall arrangements in advance, set up a special orientation working group, refined work procedures and formulated a comprehensive work plan. On the registration day, the college set up exclusive orientation service points on campus, with counselors, student union backbones and Party student volunteers on duty in shifts. Special staff provided guidance for every procedure including identity verification, document submission, campus card collection and dormitory check-in, realizing one-stop convenient registration service. For freshmen arriving in Shanghai late at night or carrying a large number of luggage, the college arranged one-on-one volunteer assistance to ensure all freshmen settle in smoothly.
During the orientation period, college leaders visited the registration site to check the overall progress of freshman registration, condole with the working staff and volunteers, and communicated cordially with freshmen and their parents. They inquired about students' hometowns, major research directions and accommodation adaptation, and encouraged the freshmen to integrate into the college community as soon as possible.
The completion of the last freshman's registration marks the successful conclusion of the 2026 postgraduate orientation work. In the follow-up, the college will carry out a series of supporting activities, including freshman entrance education, laboratory safety training and supervisor selection meetings. These activities will help freshmen quickly adapt to the study and scientific research rhythm of postgraduate life, clarify their academic development directions, and lay a solid foundation for their postgraduate study and research.
