Students from Shanghai Maritime University Achieve Good Results in the 15th National Marine Vehicle Design and Manufacturing Competition

Recently, the final of the 15th National Marine Vehicle Design and Manufacturing Competition was held at the Zhuhai Campus of Beijing Institute of Technology. Teams from Shanghai Maritime University achieved outstanding results. More than 70 teams were selected to advance to the national final after the university-level selection. After two days of fierce competition, the university won 2 Special Prizes, 5 First Prizes and 20 Second Prizes, with a total of 27 awarded teams.

Starting from September 2025, instructors from the College of Marine Science and Engineering, Xu Beihong School of Art, Merchant Marine College, College of Logistics Engineering, College of Transportation and other schools formed the competition guidance team. Meanwhile, students voluntarily established the Marine Competition Club to carry out recruitment and pre-competition training. During preparation, participants kept conducting experiments and training on campus. Despite the hot summer, they strove persistently and stood out in the national final.

With the theme of "Chasing Waves in the Blue Ocean, Innovating for a Smart Future", this competition is co-sponsored by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, the China Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, and the International Organization for Innovation and Cooperation in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. It is hosted by Beijing Institute of Technology (Zhuhai) and co-organized by Boya Gongdao Marine Technology Group Co., Ltd. The competition adheres to the tenet of "advocating science, seeking knowledge through practice, pursuing innovation, facing the ocean and serving national defense". As the highest-level, largest-scale and most extensive university competition in the field of naval architecture and ocean engineering in China, it represents the top level of scientific and technological innovation among college students in this discipline.

Open to universities and research institutes nationwide, the competition includes seven categories: innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship; design and fabrication; smart ship and ocean engineering technology; simulation and fabrication of famous ship and warship models; ship model race; sailboat model race; and marine knowledge contest. Entries cover cutting-edge marine research areas such as intelligent navigation, green power, deep-sea exploration and advanced new materials. The competition attracted 5,737 teams involving 31,933 teachers and students from 532 participating institutions nationwide. Finally, 1,868 teams with 10,427 teachers and students qualified for the national final. Meanwhile, the 3rd Teaching Innovation Competition for Teachers of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering and the 2nd National Youth Marine Vehicle Competition were held concurrently.
