To further promote Shanghai-style traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture, integrate traditional health preservation wisdom into daily campus life, and fully care for the physical and mental health of teachers and students, the themed activity “Meet Shanghai · Herbal Nourishment” was successfully held on June 16. Co-organized by the Youth League Committee of the College of Marine Science and Engineering and Nanhui New Town Community Health Service Center, the event brought featured Shanghai-style TCM culture into the campus.

During the on-site TCM pulse diagnosis session, professional TCM physicians provided one-on-one exclusive health consultation services for participating teachers and students. Adopting the traditional diagnostic methods of observation, listening, interrogation and pulse palpation, physicians accurately identified the physical constitution of each participant. They delivered personalized and scientific health guidance covering dietary conditioning, emotional regulation, daily schedules and routine health care. The activity helped teachers and students gain a comprehensive understanding of their physical conditions and establish the scientific health preservation concept of preventing diseases before occurrence and preventing deterioration of existing illnesses. The scene witnessed active consultation and enthusiastic interaction among participants.

In the handmade medicinal sachet session, the college prepared more than 20 kinds of natural aromatic Chinese herbal medicines, including mugwort leaves, mint, pogostemon cablin and cloves. Guided by on-site staff, teachers and students learned the properties and health benefits of various herbs through observing their appearance, smelling their fragrance and distinguishing their medicinal effects. Participants independently selected herbs, adjusted proportions, weighed materials and sealed the sachets according to personal needs, making exclusive medicinal sachets with functions of mosquito repellent, refreshment and soothing nerves. Filled with faint herbal fragrance, the venue presented a relaxing atmosphere. Teachers and students truly experienced the unique charm of traditional herbal culture and the healing joy of handcrafting through immersive practical operation.

Adopting an immersive and experiential form, the activity incorporated profound Shanghai-style TCM culture into campus life. It not only enriched teachers and students’ knowledge of health preservation and after-school cultural life, but also effectively enhanced their recognition, pride and affection for excellent traditional Chinese culture.

In the next stage, the college will further deepen cooperation with community health service institutions, regularly launch diverse and innovative health and cultural activities, fully support the physical and mental health and all-round development of teachers and students, and help build a healthy, civilized and vibrant campus atmosphere.
