To make up for learning deficiencies in the course Mechanics of Materials and deepen students’ understanding of professional knowledge, undergraduate students of the Class of 2024 from the College of Marine Science and Engineering held the academic tutoring activity “Help Zone of COMSE: Mechanics of Materials Mini-class” on the evening of June 10. Hu Xuezhe from the Class of 2023 was invited as the keynote speaker.
Focusing on the key and difficult points of the course, Hu Xuezhe explained and practiced six typical examples, including axial tension and compression, circular shaft torsion, plane bending, internal force superposition, and strength verification. She systematically sorted out core knowledge points and key examination contents, constructed a complete knowledge framework, and shared practical problem-solving and exam-taking skills.
An interactive Q&A session was held after the lecture. She answered students’ questions concerning concept differentiation, formula application and problem-solving ideas in detail and provided personalized learning suggestions. The progressive explanation and in-depth interaction helped students clarify their learning logic, pinpoint key review priorities, deepen their grasp of course knowledge, and greatly boost their learning confidence.
As a featured peer tutoring program, the “Help Zone of COMSE” activity builds an academic assistance system for paired learning between senior and junior students, fostering a college atmosphere of diligence, solidarity and mutual progress. The college has always focused on students’ growth needs and continuously enriched the forms of academic support activities. In the next stage, the college will further explore innovative tutoring methods, improve the comprehensive academic assistance system, and support all students in solidifying professional foundations and achieving steady growth.
