To deepen teacher-student communication and precisely respond to students’ growth demands, the College of Marine Science and Engineering held the 9th session of the “Face-to-Face with Teachers” on-site Q&A activity in the activity room of Building 60 on June 3. Yang Ming from the Department of Environmental Engineering was invited to deliver the guidance. Centering on core academic topics including scientific and innovative projects, major cognition, GPA positioning, comprehensive ability improvement and postgraduate entrance examination planning, the activity provided systematic and in-depth guidance for participating students.

During the session, taking academic development as the main thread, Teacher Yang systematically sorted out the key tasks and development logic from undergraduate to doctoral stages. She pointed out that GPA serves as an essential foundation for postgraduate recommendation, scholarship evaluation, re-examination and employment, and therefore requires high attention. While undergraduates should focus on improving comprehensive abilities, doctoral students need to conduct in-depth research in specialized fields.

In terms of major cognition, she elaborated on the disciplinary characteristics of environmental engineering, covering water, gas, solid waste and ecological governance. She highlighted the university’s strengths in ship pollution treatment and marine environmental protection, and introduced stable and promising employment directions for graduates, including maritime administrations, ecological and environmental departments, ports and shipyards, as well as environmental protection enterprises.

Regarding college innovation and entrepreneurship projects, Teacher Yang suggested that project topics should closely integrate marine and ship environmental characteristics, emphasize practical implementation, adopt reasonable team division, and actively communicate with supervisors to achieve fruitful outcomes such as competitions awards, academic papers and patents.
