Postgraduate Party Branch of Transportation Safety and Environmental Engineering Launches the First Academic Development Activity of "Postgraduate Mentorship & Empowering Micro-courses"

On the afternoon of May 29, the Postgraduate Party Branch of Transportation Safety and Environmental Engineering, College of Marine Science and Engineering, kicked off the first session of the academic style development activity themed "Postgraduate Mentorship & Empowering Micro-courses". This activity is part of the Party branch’s practical project of "One Practical Initiative per Branch", designed to improve the collaborative training of postgraduates and undergraduates, enhance undergraduates’ research capabilities and clarify their academic development paths. Three outstanding postgraduates, Cao Zheng, Zhang Qitong and Tang Xinlei, delivered targeted academic sharing for undergraduate students.

During the sharing session, the speakers focused on practical topics including intensive and extensive paper reading, EndNote citation management and key points of academic paper study. Drawing on abundant research experience, Cao Zheng illustrated how to distinguish intensive reading from extensive reading according to research objectives so as to improve undergraduates’ efficiency of literature screening and reading quality. Zhang Qitong demonstrated core operations of EndNote, such as literature import, classification, citation insertion and reference formatting. From the perspectives of paper framework analysis, research topic identification, experimental design and result discussion, Tang Xinlei helped undergraduates build a systematic mindset for efficient literature review.

In the Q&A session, undergraduates raised active questions concerning reading frequency, reference formatting and ways to get started with scientific research, which were answered in detail by the three postgraduates based on their personal experience. As a concrete implementation of the branch’s practical service program, the activity closely matches undergraduates’ demands for research learning and consolidates the communication platform between undergraduates and postgraduates. Going forward, the branch will continue to hold regular mentoring activities targeting undergraduates’ academic difficulties to support their steady progress in scientific research.
