To thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on building a powerful marine nation, and advance the joint conservation and coordinated governance of marine ecological environments, faculty and student Party members from the College of Marine Science and Engineering headed to the embankment of Fengxian Fisherman’s Wharf on the morning of June 3. They took part in the marine industry’s hundred-person beach cleaning volunteer service activity themed “Protect Beautiful Coastlines and Boost Ecological Civilization Development”, which was led and organized by the Shanghai Marine Industry Party Building Working Group.
After a brief opening ceremony, marine ecological protection science popularization activities were carried out on site, which further deepened participants’ awareness of the significance of marine environmental protection.
During the beach cleaning, faculty and student Party members worked in groups divided by zones. Equipped with garbage tongs and collection bags, they carefully cleared various coastal litter such as plastic products, waste paper and beverage bottles along the embankment slopes. After nearly two hours of joint efforts, the Party members put into practice the vision of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature with tangible actions, greatly improving the ecological environment along the embankment.
As the deputy leading unit for Party building work in Shanghai’s marine industry, the college will further draw on industrial resources and professional strengths in the future. Guided by a correct view of political achievements, it will encourage teachers and students to integrate the whole process of fostering virtue through education into Shanghai’s marine ecological protection and restoration, marine resource development and utilization, marine disaster prevention and mitigation, and marine governance on a regular basis, so as to actively support the construction of a modern marine city.
