Ocean Charm Lights up Childhood, Handicrafts Weave Innocent Dreams — College of Marine Science and Engineering Holds Children’s Day Parent-child Handicraft Workshop

To celebrate International Children’s Day and meet diverse needs of faculty families, the College of Marine Science and Engineering organized the "Ocean Charm · Childhood Dreams" Parent-child Handicraft Workshop on May 30.

Open to faculty families of the college, the event was held in a relaxing and heartwarming atmosphere with two experience zones: clay pottery making and DIY sea urchin lamp crafting. After brief tutorials on production skills, children got down to handicraft creation with great enthusiasm. At the pottery zone, parents and kids kneaded clay, shaped bodies and polished details together, turning imaginative ideas into exclusive ceramic artworks. In the sea urchin lamp area, participants followed instructors to assemble, paste components and install lighting to make personalized ocean-themed night lamps.

Focused children worked alongside patiently accompanying parents, with big hands coordinating small ones to bring creative ideas to life. Upon finishing sea urchin lamps and pottery pieces, parents recalled their own happy childhood amid the fun. Participants shared creative experiences with one another, filling the venue with cheers and laughter.

More than a warm parent-child bonding activity, the workshop delivered subtle family-style education. Through hands-on collaboration, parents and children bonded closely, cultivated fine family traditions and passed on positive family values, reflecting the college’s care for its faculty. Going forward, the college labor union will launch more diversified caring activities tailored to staff’s needs to boost their sense of gain, belonging and happiness.
