To thoroughly implement the integrated construction of ideological and political education across preschool, primary, secondary and higher education, and cultivate teenagers’ devotion to marine causes and sense of responsibility for the country, representatives from the College of Marine Science and Engineering of Shanghai Maritime University conducted visits and investigations at Mingzhu Lingang Primary School and Jianping Lingang Primary School on May 25. The college held a joint education exchange meeting featuring integrated “popular science + moral education” to build a collaborative education bridge between the university and local primary education institutions.
Wang Yaqin, Principal of Mingzhu Lingang Primary School, introduced the school’s educational philosophy, all-round education system integrating moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labor education, and the current progress of practical education. She stated that relying on the geographical advantages of Lingang New Area, the school is in urgent need of high-quality marine educational resources to make up for the shortcomings in popular science education. She hoped to cooperate with the college based on its distinctive marine disciplines to create marine-themed courses and research and practice activities, guiding teenagers to approach and explore the ocean and foster their blue marine dreams.
Hu Bo, Principal of Jianping Lingang Primary School, summarized the achievements of previous cooperation between the two sides, reviewing the outcomes of marine science popularization lectures, ecological handicraft practices, environmental protection-themed courses and other activities. He pointed out that high-quality university resources have effectively enriched the school’s after-school services and ideological and political education forms, realizing the integration and coordinated development of knowledge imparting and ideological guidance. He also expressed the hope of taking this opportunity to promote the normalization, systematization and branding of inter-school cooperation for further quality upgrading.
Wang Weiyi, Party Secretary of the college, introduced the college’s distinctive education model of “marine disciplines + ideological and political education”. He noted that the integrated construction of ideological and political education across all school stages is a key measure to fulfill the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. Empowering basic education with the university’s professional strengths not only extends the chain of ideological and political education, but also fulfills the university’s social service mission. The college will accurately connect with the actual needs of basic education, further promote the sinking of marine popular science and ideological education resources, and explore a regional-featured and stage-connected collaborative education path.
All parties reached consensus during the seminar. They agreed to establish a long-term communication mechanism through Party building cooperation; develop stage-connected school-based textbooks integrating marine popular science and moral education centered on curriculum co-construction; carry out immersive marine practice and ideological and political themed education activities via joint event organization; and share university laboratories, practice bases and high-quality teaching resources to form an integrated collaborative education pattern covering primary and higher education.
This exchange activity has successfully constructed a new integrated education framework of “value guidance + marine culture + popular science practice”. In the next stage, the College of Marine Science and Engineering will further deepen cooperation with the two primary schools, promote the in-depth development of integrated education featuring “popular science + moral education”, integrate marine feelings, scientific spirit and national responsibility into the whole education process, and contribute to cultivating new-era teenagers with profound literacy and strong mission awareness.
