To precisely address students’ profound puzzles in scientific research exploration and academic development, the 6th session of the "Face-to-Face with Teachers" tutoring activity of the College of Marine Science and Engineering was held in the activity room of Building 60 on the afternoon of May 13. Teacher Fu Zheng from the Department of Naval Architecture was invited as the guest speaker.

Centering on core topics including schedule management of research projects, undergraduate career planning and effective learning approaches for specialized courses, Teacher Fu had in-depth face-to-face exchanges with participating students. He pointed out that the successful completion of research projects relies on well-arranged research schedules and consistent practical progress. Only through continuous adjustment in practice can students identify and resolve practical problems emerging in research in a timely manner.

When talking about personal development paths, Fu stressed that the value of a resume lies not in its length or superficial glamour, but in one solid, high-value core professional competency. He encouraged students to stay true to their original intentions for participating in innovation and research, and set development goals matching their personal strengths. He highlighted that scientific competitions, student administration work and club activities are all valuable with no ranking distinction; the key is to delve deeply into fields they excel at to achieve expertise and in-depth development.

In terms of academic planning, he advised students against adopting an all-or-nothing attitude toward college study. Instead, they should make rational plans and leave room for alternative development options. For major courses, students are recommended to start with the overall logical framework before digging into specific knowledge points to consolidate academic foundations step by step.

Targeting students’ real concerns, this tutoring session cleared up their confusion over research and career planning, guiding them to allocate time and energy more reasonably and design their college life in a scientific way.
