To strengthen students’ weak foundations in the course of Hydraulics and improve their ability to understand and apply professional knowledge, undergraduates of the Grade 2024 from the College of Marine Science and Engineering launched the academic tutoring activity “Helpful Study Buddy: Hydraulics Mini Class” on the evening of May 13. Senior students Li Chengxi and Zhang Jiepei from Grade 2023 were invited as speakers. Adopting peer mentoring and special topic explanation, the activity fostered a positive learning atmosphere of mutual assistance and common progress, helping students effectively overcome academic difficulties.
Centering on the core content of the course, the activity consisted of two special tutoring sessions. In the first session, Li Chengxi systematically sorted out key knowledge including introduction, hydrostatics, one-dimensional steady uniform flow, flow resistance and head loss. She clarified core concepts and examination focuses, helping students establish a clear and systematic knowledge framework. In the second session, Zhang Jiepei focused on difficult knowledge points such as streamlines and path lines, planar potential flow, orifice and nozzle outflow, pressure pipeline flow, uniform open channel flow and flow regime transition. Combined with typical exercises, he explained key problem-solving methods and analytical thinking to help students tackle difficult questions efficiently.
An interactive Q&A session was arranged after the lectures. The senior students patiently answered questions concerning conceptual understanding, formula application and problem-solving ideas, providing targeted academic guidance for participants. The progressive lectures and interactive discussions not only clarified students’ learning paths and review priorities, but also effectively deepened their understanding of hydraulics and boosted their learning confidence.
As a featured academic program, the “Helpful Study Buddy” activity builds a peer tutoring system enabling senior students to support junior counterparts, continuously fostering a positive and supportive academic atmosphere in the college. Adhering to the student-oriented philosophy, the college has actively built diversified academic support platforms. In the future, the college will further enrich academic assistance forms and improve learning support mechanisms to help all students make steady progress in professional study and achieve comprehensive growth.
