To guide students to scientifically plan their future development and clarify their career orientation, the College of Marine Science and Engineering held a career planning-themed evening roll call titled Reaching for the Stars and the Sea, Embracing a Promising Future for Grade 2024 undergraduates on the evening of April 19, 2026. The session was delivered by Zhu Wenwu, faculty part-time counselor for the Grade 2024 cohort.
During the sharing session, Teacher Zhu systematically illustrated five core development paths for college students: employment, postgraduate admission, civil service examination, overseas study and entrepreneurship. Based on the current employment situation of university graduates, he analyzed the advantages, disadvantages and applicable groups of state-owned enterprises, private enterprises and foreign enterprises, reminding students to make rational choices and prudent plans. In terms of postgraduate studies, he guided students to reflect on their original intentions for further education, emphasizing that further study should be driven by personal interests and abilities rather than blind conformity. As for civil service jobs, he pointed out that career stability is its core advantage, suitable for students pursuing a steady career path. Overseas study helps broaden international vision, while students need to comprehensively consider economic conditions, personal safety and institutional strength before making decisions. Although entrepreneurship boasts great potential, it also comes with high risks.
Teacher Zhu suggested students accumulate practical experience in advance and actively participate in various entrepreneurship competitions during college to improve their comprehensive capabilities.Teacher Zhu stressed that “success lies in prior preparation, and failure results from lack of it”. There is no one-size-fits-all optimal choice for the future, but only the most suitable path for each individual. He encouraged students to combine their professional characteristics, personal interests and strengths to make plans in advance, clarify their development directions and improve comprehensive abilities through continuous exploration.
Informative and targeted, this themed evening roll call enabled students to clearly understand the characteristics and requirements of different development paths, and effectively helped them establish a proactive and rational awareness of career planning. It is hoped that all students will take this session as an opportunity to set clear goals, keep forging ahead steadily, pursue their dreams bravely, and stride toward the vast ocean of the future.
