To deepen the integration of industry and education, improve education quality, and help students majoring in Port, Waterway and Coastal Engineering clarify career paths, strengthen professional identity and enhance employability, the College of Marine Science and Engineering, Shanghai Maritime University, successfully held the career empowerment activity themed Pioneering & Anchoring in the Blue Ocean on April 16, 2026. Liao Jiexin and Li Zhongyue, HR managers from COSCO Shipping Construction Technology (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd., were invited as keynote speakers, with all relevant major students attending on site.
As a core central enterprise in the shipping industry, COSCO Shipping Construction Technology (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd. boasts a high degree of alignment with the university’s port and waterway discipline. Combining industrial development trends and corporate recruitment experience, Manager Liao interpreted core positions covering port planning & design, waterway engineering technology and coastal ecological restoration. She elaborated on the dual-track promotion system of management and technical development, alongside diversified benefits including remuneration packages, overseas training opportunities and school-enterprise cooperative training, enabling students to gain a straightforward understanding of the industry’s development prospects. Focusing on practical job hunting skills, Director Li stressed equal importance of theoretical expertise and practical capabilities such as CAD, BIM and engineering surveying. She advised students to accumulate experience through discipline competitions and internships, keep track of emerging sectors including smart ports and eco-friendly waterways, and build comprehensive core competitiveness.
During the interactive session, the two experts answered questions covering business trip frequency, female career development, internship application and vocational qualification examinations with firsthand practical experience.
This activity marks a key practice under the college’s career development program Harbor Young Dreams, Navigate Toward Blue Ocean. Moving forward, relying on its disciplinary advantages, the college will further deepen cooperation with leading port & waterway enterprises via special lectures, enterprise open days and other activities to embed career guidance throughout the whole talent cultivation process, supporting students to pursue their maritime dreams and thrive in the port and waterway industry.
