To effectively help students resolve academic puzzles, clarify plans for academic study and career development, and deliver practical academic guidance, the College of Marine Science and Engineering recently hosted the second session of the Face-to-Face with Faculty on-site consultation activity at the One-stop Student Community, with Teacher Sun Kai from the Materials Department as the guest instructor.

At the opening of the event, Teacher Sun Kai learned about students’ current study status, campus adaptation and major academic difficulties, before elaborating on the responsibilities and significance of academic supervisors. He stressed that academic supervisors serve as guides for students of all grades throughout their university studies, and encouraged students to take initiative in regular communication to consult academic problems and discuss future planning. This ensures the tutor system avoids formalism and fulfills its core functions of guiding, assisting and motivating students’ learning.

Addressing common confusion in coursework among different grades, Teacher Sun put forward targeted and practical advice tailored to study features at varying university stages: students should take the initiative to obtain course slides from instructors to consolidate in-class knowledge; learn from peers through mutual communication and collaborative progress; combine direct consultation and independent research to fully grasp key knowledge points; and make full use of high-quality online courses such as MOOCs to broaden horizons and fill knowledge gaps. Drawing on his own study and teaching experience, he also shared proper approaches to applying AI tools in learning, guiding students to keep pace with educational reform and technological advances and improve learning efficiency with emerging technologies.

Towards the end, Teacher Sun patiently listened to and answered personalized questions raised by students amid enthusiastic on-site discussions. The consultation successfully solved students’ troubles concerning academics and future development, shortened the distance between teachers and students, and delivered warm, result-oriented academic guidance. It helped students set clear study goals and strengthen learning motivation, laying a solid foundation for their academic growth and long-term development.
