To guide students to develop healthy lifestyles, clarify their career development directions, and strengthen self-discipline in the digital era, the College of Marine Science and Engineering held a themed evening roll call for Grade 2024 undergraduates on the evening of April 6, 2026. Presided over by Teacher Zhu Diyao, the event was themed "Resist Indulgence, Anchor Your Direction". Adopting youth-oriented discourse, the session featured profound ideological connotations, warm educational significance and distinctive contemporary characteristics.
The roll call kicked off with a popular online quote familiar to young people, striking a chord among students and then focusing on the prevalent issue of short video addiction. Supported by relevant data, it illustrated the high popularity and strong stickiness of short videos nowadays. It also analyzed the profound impacts of long-term indulgence on physical health, concentration, mood and real-life social interaction. It pointed out that dissipated attention from fragmented information, anxiety and inner friction caused by virtual comparison, and hindered growth due to poor time management are digital traps that college students must guard against. From four aspects including self-awareness, boundary setting, real-life enrichment and mental adjustment, the counselor called on students to know themselves better, set rational usage limits and enrich daily life. Short videos should serve as a beneficial part of life rather than a trap for indulgence.
In the career planning session, combining the further study and employment data of the 2025 undergraduate graduates, the counselor provided students with a clear reference for personal development. Focusing on the critical stage of the sophomore second semester, she reminded students to consolidate their academic foundation and strengthen their English proficiency. She also advised them to make orderly preparations for summer internships, language examinations and scientific research practices, and seize the golden opportunity for self-improvement. Guided by clear goals and backed by solid actions, students are encouraged to resist indulgence and steer firmly toward their future directions.
This evening roll call resonated with students through trending topics, offered rational guidance, relied on data support and focused on practical advice. It helped students stay true to themselves and stay away from indulgence in the digital age, as well as clarify directions and move forward steadily. The activity fully reflects the college's thoughtful care and targeted guidance for the growth of young students.
