To guide teenagers in Lingang New Area to approach the ocean, advocate science and cultivate artistic accomplishment, the 13th Marine Culture, Science and Technology Art Festival with the theme of "Enlightening Wisdom with the Blue Ocean, Integrating Art and Science" was held at Shanghai Lingang No.1 Middle School on March 30. Invited by the organizer, Teacher Sun Kai, Secretary of the Marine Materials Postgraduate Party Branch of the school, delivered a popular science lecture titled The Amazing Titanium Alloy to more than 600 teachers and students in the library lecture hall.
At the start of the event, Teacher Sun interacted warmly with the students, quickly bridging the gap and creating a pleasant atmosphere. With vivid cases, videos and Q&A sessions, he explained in plain terms what titanium alloy is, how it is manufactured, and its irreplaceable role in deep-sea equipment as well as its future development prospects.Combining education with entertainment, he presented striking pictures and impressive videos to review the development of China's manned deep-sea diving industry, illustrating the historic leap of submersibles including Jiaolong, Deep Sea Warrior and Fendouzhe from scratch and from shallow waters to the ocean trenches. He stressed that every major scientific and technological breakthrough embodies the pioneering spirit and collaborative dedication of numerous researchers.He also told inspiring stories of distinguished senior scientists such as Qian Xuesen, Shi Changxu and Huang Xuhua, who dedicated themselves to the motherland and the people, pursued scientific excellence and lived a simple life. The students came to understand that personal dreams can shine brightest when integrated with the nation's future. The on-site interaction was lively. Teacher Sun communicated with students and answered their questions patiently, greatly inspiring their enthusiasm for marine science and technology.
The popular science lecture sowed seeds of scientific enthusiasm and marine exploration in students, inspired their patriotism and aspiration to engage in marine undertakings and serve the country through science and technology, and built an effective bridge for collaborative education between universities and middle schools.As a cultivated and established model Party branch in the third batch of university party building demonstration units, the Marine Materials Postgraduate Party Branch will continue to give play to its exemplary and leading role. It will further deepen popular science co-construction cooperation with primary and secondary schools in Lingang area, help comprehensively improve teenagers' patriotism, scientific literacy and practical abilities, and contribute more to cultivating marine scientific and technological talents and supporting the construction of a powerful maritime nation.
