To promote students' mental health, integrate plant cultivation with psychological care, and ease the pressure brought by coursework, scientific research and thesis writing among undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students, the School of Marine Science and Engineering launched the themed psychological activity Greening the Mind, Accompanying the Journey. Held at the One-Stop Service Community on the afternoon of March 25, the event attracted more than 20 students from different grades and majors.
Tailored to the study and research characteristics of engineering students, the activity consisted of four distinctive sessions with rich and varied contents, helping participants relax and cultivate a positive mindset through fun experiences. In the movie salon Watching Films to Nourish the Heart, healing movies such as Manchester by the Sea were screened. After the screening, students shared their thoughts combined with their own research experiences. During the session Green Plants Accompany the Soul, easy-to-raise succulents were given out for free. Staff also explained plant maintenance tips and encouraged students to keep growth check-ins, inspiring them to apply the patience and carefulness of tending plants to academic research and mental adjustment.
The activity organically integrates the vitality of nature with the concept of mental health education. It not only effectively enhances students’ awareness of mental health and ability to regulate emotions, but also promotes interaction and communication among students of different grades and majors. The event demonstrates the school’s continuous efforts and sincere care for students’ mental health education. Through hands-on planting and immersive experiences, students perceive the power of growth, enabling them to face challenges in academic research and study with a calmer mindset and fuller spirit. The activity truly realizes the educational effect of nourishing the mind with greenery and empowering the research journey with positive mentality.
