Passing the Torch and Staying True to the Original Aspiration,Retirement with Deep Affection for Generations of Students— College of Marine Science and Engineering Holds Retirement Symposium for Professor Wu Xianghao

On the afternoon of March 24, the College of Marine Science and Engineering held a retirement symposium for Professor Wu Xianghao of the Port and Coastal Engineering Department. Wang Weiyi, Secretary of the College Party Committee, Feng Daolun, Deputy Secretary of the College Party Committee and Dean, Liu Boyang, Chair of the College Labor Union, as well as teachers from the College Office and the Port and Coastal Engineering Department gathered together to review Professor Wu’s decades-long teaching career and express their high respect and sincere wishes. The symposium was presided over by Shao Wei, Director of the Port and Coastal Engineering Department.

 On behalf of the College Party Committee, Secretary Wang Weiyi extended his sincere gratitude to Professor Wu. He spoke highly of Professor Wu’s outstanding contributions to the development of the college and commended his noble ethics of prioritizing the college’s development and collective interests. Secretary Wang earnestly hoped that after retirement, Professor Wu would continue to leverage his professional expertise, pass on his experience to younger colleagues, care for and support the college’s development as always, actively offer advice for discipline construction, and help young teachers grow.

 Dean Feng Daolun highly praised the dedication and wisdom Professor Wu had devoted to the development of the college and the Port and Coastal Engineering Department. He pointed out that Professor Wu was not only a witness to the development of the department but also an important builder and contributor. His professionalism and academic competence left a valuable legacy for the college. On behalf of the college, Dean Feng expressed sincere thanks and best wishes to Professor Wu, wishing him a happy, healthy and fulfilling retirement life. 

In his speech, Professor Wu Xianghao affectionately reviewed his decades of teaching experience and shared his valuable teaching insights and life reflections. He encouraged the young teachers present to stay true to the original aspiration of education, devote themselves to teaching and mentoring, and integrate personal growth into the development of the college and its disciplines. His simple yet profound words, like a vivid life lesson, inspired and moved all the teachers present.

 During the symposium, participating teachers spoke one after another, recalling unforgettable moments of working with Professor Wu. Everyone agreed that as a senior professor of the department, Professor Wu had worked quietly on the front lines of teaching and research for decades. With noble ethics, rigorous academic attitude and selfless dedication, he made indelible contributions to the construction and development of the major, and was a respected mentor and friend to all. 

This retirement symposium was not only a tribute to and recognition of Professor Wu Xianghao’s decades-long educational career, but also an inheritance and promotion of the college’s fine teaching ethics and style. The symposium concluded successfully in a warm, touching and reluctant atmosphere.
