To thoroughly implement the important philosophy of "People build the city for the people and serve the people", and effectively advance the publicity and education work for the 2026 World Water Day and China Water Week, representatives of teachers and students from the School of Marine Science and Engineering went to the Luchao Inlet Sluice on the morning of March 20. Organized by the University Logistics Center and the Youth League Committee, the team participated in the themed publicity and education activity of "Safeguarding the National Water Network, Consolidating Sluice Defenses, and Jointly Ensuring Water Conservancy Safety". The activity aimed to guide teachers and students to foster the concepts of water conservation and protection and strengthen their sense of responsibility for water conservancy safety.
During the activity, teachers and students had an up-close observation of the sluice’s automatic control system and learned about standardized management procedures. Through real-time data displayed on the central control screen, they gained intuitive insights into the practical effects of modern information technologies applied in sluice scheduling, safety monitoring and emergency response. At the hoist house and sluice site, the participants closely observed core facilities such as winch hoists and hydraulic pump stations, and further understood the working principles of sluice gates, equipment performance and daily maintenance specifications.In addition, teachers and students of our school actively interacted with young students from Shanghai Ocean University. They conducted in-depth discussions on sluice operation and management as well as water conservancy safety mechanisms, which deepened their professional understanding of water conservancy and consolidated their consensus on water conservation and protection.
The activity provided a valuable platform for teachers and students to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience, greatly improving their understanding and recognition of national water network construction and water conservancy safety. Taking this activity as an opportunity, the university will continue to carry out water conservancy popularization and practical education activities. It will guide all teachers and students to take the initiative to conserve and protect water resources, and contribute university efforts to consolidating urban water security barriers and promoting the high-quality development of the water conservancy industry.
