To help freshmen majoring in Environmental Engineering of the 2025 grade deepen their understanding of the discipline and clarify career directions, the School of Marine Science and Engineering held a special lecture on professional identity on March 18. Feng Daolun, Deputy Party Secretary and Dean of the school, delivered the lecture. Relevant teachers from the Marine Environment Department and all 2025 freshmen of Environmental Engineering attended the event.
Dean Feng Daolun had in-depth exchanges with students on core topics including "What is environmental engineering", "Career prospects of the major" and "What to gain from university life". He first elaborated on the profound connotation of environmental engineering, pointing out that it is a vital discipline closely linked to sustainable development and humanity's future. When talking about the development trends of the industry, he used the analogy that promising industries always evolve from being pioneered by a few to gaining widespread popularity. He noted that the environmental sector is now at a critical stage filled with both opportunities and challenges.
When talking about personal growth during college years, Dean Feng emphasized that while professional knowledge serves as the foundation, the fundamental goal of education is to teach people how to learn. Cultivating internal motivation, learning capabilities and good habits matters far more than merely acquiring knowledge. Besides, building sound morality is the cornerstone for overcoming challenges in any field in the future.
This lecture on professional identity not only brought teachers and students closer, but also helped freshmen gain a fuller understanding and stronger sense of identity towards Environmental Engineering, laying a solid foundation for their future career planning.
