To promote the virtue of labor and carry forward the spirit of practice, on October 15th, the Qingmeng Workshop of the College of Marine Science and Engineering of Shanghai Maritime University organized all the young members of the 232nd Ship Class to hold a unique theme League Day activity in the school's nursery. The students, with sickles and hoes as their pens and sweat as their ink, composed a song of praise for the labor of youth in the fragrance of the soil.
At the beginning of the activity, Liu Xiang, the director of the Agriculture, Rural Areas and Farmers Service Society, held farm tools and explained the labor content in detail to the students. He cleared the weeds and trees on both sides of the walkway in the nursery. This not only beautified the campus but also served as a "down-to-earth" compulsory labor course. Then, the students put on gloves, bent down and swung their sickles to cut the grass. As the hoes rose and fell, the messy grass gradually turned into a neat and clean land. Facing the rampant growth of miscellaneous trees and shrubs, several people worked together to hold them steady, held saws and cut them steadily, and then cleared the branches to the designated area.
The sun was shining, and sweat was soaking the clothes, but no one stopped. The tacit cooperation made the originally unfamiliar labor gradually reach a good state. "Knowledge gained from books is always shallow!" " Wiping the sweat off his forehead, Lin Yihong, the Youth League branch secretary, said with emotion, "The touch of the soil and the fatigue from sweating are more real than any book knowledge. As a future builder of the Marine industry, this quality of being down-to-earth and not fearing difficulties will be a precious asset on the path of future career."
This activity is far from simple physical labor. What the students are clearing up is desolation, sowing is their love and responsibility for the campus, sweating is being shed, and tempering is the tenacity and responsibility of youth.
