On the afternoon of September 24th, the College of Marine Science and Engineering held a meeting for all faculty and staff for the 2025 autumn semester. The meeting comprehensively summarized the achievements of the work this year, deeply analyzed the current situation and challenges faced by the college's development, and made arrangements for the key tasks of the new semester. Wang Weiyi, the Party Secretary of the college, Feng Daolun, the Deputy Party Secretary and President, Dong Chaoqun, the Deputy Party Secretary, and Chao Zhiming, the Vice President, attended the meeting. Secretary Wang Weiyi first conveyed the spirit of the school's autumn middle-level cadres' meeting. Then, in light of the new situation the college is facing in its development, he put forward five requirements to all the faculty and staff of the college: First, carry forward the spirit of educators and consolidate the foundation of education. All teachers should deeply understand the core essence of the spirit of educators, devote themselves to teaching and moral education, focus their main energy on improving the quality of education and teaching, and truly return to the essence of nurturing people. Second, focus on national strategies and serve social development. Scientific research work must closely align with the major strategic demands of the country and the cutting-edge of industry development. It should be based on the needs of Shanghai's "Five Centers" construction, adhere to the principle of "conducting genuine scientific research and conducting genuine scientific research", produce scientific research achievements with practical value, and provide strong support for the regional economic and social development. Third, strengthen the leading role of Party building and pool the synergy for development. We must uphold and strengthen the Party's overall leadership over the work of the college, promote the normalization and long-term effectiveness of work style improvement, and deepen the integration of Party building and business operations, so as to lead the high-quality development of the college's cause with high-quality Party building. Fourth, strengthen the construction of teachers' ethics and conduct, and adhere to the original aspiration and bottom line. We should continue to carry out the "take cases as a mirror" warning education, improve the assessment and evaluation system for teachers' ethics, guide teachers to build a solid ideological defense line, strive to be "four-have" good teachers, and jointly create a clean and upright educational environment. Fifth, strengthen the ideological defense line to ensure the safety of education. It is necessary to strictly implement the responsibility system for ideological work, strengthen the management of classroom, academic and online platforms, enhance ideological guidance for teachers and students, and improve their political acumen and discernment.
President Feng Daolun systematically expounded on the overall thinking of the college's work for the new semester. He emphasized that it is necessary to adhere to taking connotative construction as the core, focus on shifting the development focus to quality improvement, and effectively promote the high-quality development of the college's cause. In terms of discipline construction and talent cultivation, the college should focus on optimizing the layout of disciplines and specialties to make them more in line with the national strategic demands and the regional economic and social development trends. It is necessary to continuously enhance the overall quality of undergraduate and postgraduate education, strengthen the management of the teaching process, and improve the talent cultivation plan. We should actively promote the reform and innovation of the talent cultivation model and encourage the exploration of individualized and compound talent cultivation paths. We should constantly strengthen cross-disciplinary construction, promote cross-interaction among different academic fields, and form a favorable ecosystem for coordinated development. In terms of the construction of the teaching staff, the college should continue to deepen the mechanism of integrating industry and education, expand the breadth and depth of cooperation with leading enterprises in the industry, further strengthen the training and empowerment of the teaching staff, actively explore the cultivation path of "dual-qualified" teachers, and enhance the practical teaching ability and industry influence of teachers. In addition, the college should continuously improve its internal quality assurance mechanism, constantly optimize the student source structure, and enhance the quality of student recruitment. We will also steadily advance several key special projects in a planned and step-by-step manner, striving to achieve substantive breakthroughs in key areas and lay a more solid foundation for the sustainable and high-quality development of the college.

Finally, the college organized and carried out the confidentiality education and training for the third quarter of 2025 and watched the relevant video materials. President Feng Daolun emphasized that teachers who plan to apply for classified projects must report to the college in advance, and the college will organize special training to enhance their knowledge of confidentiality. The meeting also put forward clear requirements for the standardized management of information such as scientific research data and academic achievements by combining typical cases, and reminded all faculty and staff to enhance their awareness of confidentiality and strictly abide by confidentiality discipline.
