From July 3 to 5, 2025, He Haibo, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the School of Marine Science and Engineering, Zhang Xuehong, Director of the Office, Zhu Diyu, Counselor, and Zhou Yukun, Captain of the Shanghai-Hunan Care Practice Team, went to Huayuan County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in advance to carry out preliminary visits and research work for social practice, and went deep into local schools, villages and Youth League and county committees to exchange and learn, so as to lay the foundation for follow-up teaching and practical activities.
The first stop of the practice team arrived at Huayuan County No. 3 Middle School, where they exchanged views with Principal Ma Chunbo on topics such as the development status of the school, the construction of the teaching team, and the growth needs of students, and inspected the school's teaching facilities, student dormitory environment and teaching equipment configuration, so as to fully prepare for the upcoming summer teaching activities. Subsequently, the team went to the Huotu Village Party and Mass Service Center and reached a consensus with the cadres of the village committee on specific matters such as the setting of summer volunteer teaching courses and safety and security measures.
On the second day, the practice team visited the Huayuan Youth League County Committee and had an in-depth discussion with Zhou Shi, Secretary of the Youth League County Party Committee, on topics such as deepening youth volunteer service, innovating social practice models, and establishing long-term cooperation mechanisms in the context of the new era. Secretary Zhou highly affirmed the Shanghai-Hunan Care teaching team for 17 consecutive years to carry out practical research in Xiangxi, and said that he would fully support the continuous and in-depth development of the project, and hoped that college students would give full play to their professional strengths, better combine local characteristics and actual needs to carry out targeted poverty alleviation work, and strengthen practical characteristics.
On July 5th, the practice team went to Shibadong Village, the first place of targeted poverty alleviation, and through visiting the exhibition hall of targeted poverty alleviation, visiting characteristic villages, and in-depth exchanges with villagers, the team members deeply understood the profound connotation of the 16-character policy of seeking truth from facts, adapting measures to local conditions, categorical guidance, and targeted poverty alleviation, and personally felt the great achievements of poverty alleviation and the vivid practice of rural revitalization.
On the day of return, the group also visited Jishou University, and had in-depth exchanges with Shi Piao, a cadre selected by the Provincial Party Committee, hoping to further strengthen cooperation with local universities and units in the coming days, focus on the shipping characteristics of the school, provide intellectual support for the development of yacht tourism in Xiangxi, and deeply compose the mountains and seas of Shanghai and Hunan.
This survey has laid a solid foundation for the college to continue to deepen education assistance and expand school-local cooperation. The college will give full play to the advantages of disciplines and specialties, carry out deeper and broader cooperation with Huayuan County in terms of teaching support and cultural inheritance, and contribute to rural revitalization. It is reported that the Huxiang Care teaching team will be officially stationed in Huayuan No. 3 Middle School in mid-July to carry out a 15-day teaching support activity, and further deepen cooperation with the local community in the fields of education, culture, and industrial development.
