In order to promote the World Oceans Day on June 8, on May 29, the party members, teachers and students of the School of Marine Science and Engineering participated in the volunteer service activity of 100 People Clean the Beach and Protect the Ocean held by the Shanghai Marine Industry Party Building Working Group in Chongming Island. Under the leadership of the counselor Meng Xuanzhen, the members of the Party branch of the Master of Water Conservancy Engineering and more than 100 volunteers from the city's marine industry units jointly carried out ecological protection practices.

With the theme of Strengthening the Joint Protection and Governance of the Marine Ecological Environment and Building a Beautiful Shanghai Together, the event built a solid ideological foundation through policy publicity and popular science education. The Municipal Ocean Center systematically interpreted the Action Plan for Marine Ecological Protection and Restoration in Shanghai and clarified the planning path of marine ecological protection in Shanghai. The expert lecture focused on the case of marine ecological restoration, focusing on the design concept and implementation effectiveness of ecological restoration in the construction of Chongming Hemei Island, analyzing the challenges faced by marine pollution control, and enhancing participants' awareness of protection.

In the beach clean-up operation of the embankment on the west side of the Tuanjiesha sluice, teachers and students worked together in groups to clean up discarded fishing nets, white foam and other pollutants at the foot of the embankment and fence boards, and strictly implemented garbage sorting and disposal, so that the cleaned coastline took on a new look. At the end of the event, the volunteers also visited the Chinese Sturgeon Dream Garden to observe the living environment of rare marine creatures up close. Wang Hao, a representative of student party members, said that this event deepened the understanding of the urgency of marine ecological protection, and he will combine what he has learned in his major to practice in the future. Teacher Meng Xuanzhen emphasized that such activities help cultivate students' sense of social responsibility, promote the integration of theory and practice, and encourage everyone to continue to pay attention to marine conservation.

Shanghai's marine industry will increase publicity and guidance in the future, and party members, teachers and students of the School of Marine Science and Engineering will continue to participate in marine protection actions to contribute to building a beautiful Shanghai and protecting the marine ecology. This event not only enhanced the public's awareness of loving and protecting the sea, but also provided a practical example for promoting the Chinese modernization of harmonious coexistence between man and nature.
