On the afternoon of April 29, 2025, Wang Weiyi, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Marine Science and Engineering, Shanghai Maritime University, and Liu Jiahao, Vice Dean of the School of Marine Science and Engineering, led the relevant personnel of the college office to form a special inspection team to carry out safety inspections on the experimental center of the whole college.

The inspection team focused on the management of hazardous chemicals, equipment operation and maintenance, and safety facilities. The inspection found that most of the laboratory safety management systems were in place, the use of hazardous chemicals was standardized, the ledger records were complete, and the fire-fighting facilities and emergency equipment were in an effective state. However, there are still potential safety hazards in some scientific research laboratories: there are management problems such as chaotic placement of instruments and equipment and poor hygiene in individual experimental areas; A small number of laboratories have missing labels for hazardous chemicals waste liquid barrels, and the specifications of leak-proof trays do not meet the requirements of the specification. In response to the problems found, the inspection team issued a rectification notice on the spot, clarified the responsible person and the time limit for rectification, and required the immediate implementation of reforms.

This safety inspection adopts a combination of inspection and education, and the inspectors carry out safety knowledge education on the spot, focusing on key links such as standardized storage of hazardous chemicals and classified disposal of experimental waste. Through the special inspection, we not only systematically grasped the current situation of laboratory safety of the college, but also effectively improved the safety red line awareness and risk prevention ability of teachers and students. In the future, the school will continue to strengthen laboratory safety management to create a safe and stable teaching and research environment for teachers and students.
