In order to guide young students to deeply grasp the general trend of national economic development and enhance their mission, on the evening of May 25, the 2023 class of the School of Marine Science and Engineering held the first lecture of this semester's situation and policy course in the Bangjian Lecture Hall, with the theme of China's Economic Stability and Long-term Development, which was delivered by Lei Mengyu, a 2022 counselor.
Taking the current international and domestic economic situation as the starting point, combined with the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the spirit of the Central Economic Work Conference, Mr. Lei systematically expounded the underlying logic of China's economy that the fundamentals of long-term improvement will not change. By analyzing the new development pattern of dual circulation, the strategy driven by scientific and technological innovation, and the high-level opening up to the outside world, the vitality of China's economy continues to be unleashed in the process of transformation and upgrading. In the field of marine science and engineering, it is especially pointed out that new productive forces such as marine economy and green and low-carbon technologies are becoming important engines of economic growth, and the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center and the development of deep-sea resources are taken as examples to illustrate the deep integration of the strategy of maritime power and economic development.
Focusing on the responsibility of young people, Mr. Lei linked the general economic trend with his academic career. He mentioned that in the face of the reshaping of the global economic pattern, young students need to base themselves on their professional advantages, pay attention to cutting-edge fields such as marine equipment manufacturing, ecological restoration technology, and smart port management, and serve the national strategic needs with innovative thinking. He encouraged the students to actively integrate the goals of maritime power and dual carbon in discipline competitions, scientific research practices and career planning, embed personal growth into the overall development of the country, and inject youth momentum into the high-quality development of China's economy with hard work.
Through this course, students realized that they should not only have a clear understanding of the risks and challenges of the external environment, but also strengthen their confidence in China's economic resilience and institutional advantages.
