In order to deepen labor practice education and promote the spirit of integrity, on the evening of May 25, the 2023 class of the School of Marine Science and Engineering carried out a late roll call activity with the theme of Understanding the Beauty of Labor and Enjoying the Joy of Labor and Establishing People with Faith and Self-cultivation with Sincerity in the Bangjian Lecture Hall, and invited Lei Mengyu, a counselor of the 2022 class, to give a lecture to guide students to temper their character in labor and cultivate virtue in integrity.
Starting from the significance of labor education, Mr. Lei emphasized that the Student Handbook clearly incorporates labor education into the undergraduate training system, and requires students to complete the prescribed school hours through diversified channels such as social practice, volunteer service, and campus labor, so as to cultivate the comprehensive quality of knowledge and action. He pointed out that labor is not only a skill exercise, but also a key part of the shaping of values, and encouraged students to abandon the utilitarian mentality of emphasizing theory over practice, take the initiative to participate in labor practice, and understand the profound connotation of labor creates value in practice.
At the same time, Mr. Lei focused on the lifelong value of integrity education, pointing out that integrity is the lifeline of learning and research, and it is also the passport for interpersonal communication. He analyzed the harm of untrustworthy behavior to personal development and social credibility, and called on students to resist utilitarian temptation, adhere to the moral bottom line, and establish an image of honest and trustworthy youth inside and outside the campus.
Through the organic integration of labor and integrity, this evening roll call guides students to understand the practical value of working hard and forging character and the foundation of integrity casts character. The students said that they would actively respond to the labor education requirements of the Student Handbook and enhance their sense of responsibility in practice; At the same time, we should take honesty as a mirror, correct our words and deeds, and strive to become a young person in the new era with both ability and political integrity and all-round development.
