On May 14, 2025, the School of Marine Science and Engineering moved the labor education classroom into the West Point Room on campus, and led students to decode the Shanghai-style cultural genes in the dense aroma and touch the city spirit on the tip of the tongue with the activity of Shanghai-style Coffee Rhyme: Coffee Culture Reading and Latte Art Experience as the carrier.
Coffee, a cultural symbol that is part of Shanghai's blood, weaves the city's unique fabric with a density of 9,553 cafes. The event is based on the context of from beans to cups, connecting cultural reading and hand-made practice: the gold medal barista traces the history of coffee and Shanghai since the opening of the port period, and tells how it shapes the life aesthetics of Oriental Paris with fireworks and jazz in the alleys. A cup of coffee hides half of the history of Shanghai style - from Zhang Ailing's 'Mandarin Duck Café' to the modern Internet celebrity street, coffee has always been a witness to the city's openness and inclusiveness. Through the cultural code in the Shanghai Coffee Consumption Index, the speaker revealed the two-way gene of localized improvement and international expression of Shanghai-style coffee.
The hands-on session is transformed into a creative workshop, where professional baristas perform espresso extraction techniques on the spot. From the grinding scale to the density of milk foam, the students incarnated as coffee artists under the guidance, outlining the Shanghainese style between the cups and cups, matching Jiangnan refreshments such as nut crisp, and interpreting the taste symphony of coffee with dessert, suitable for both Chinese and Western, and the scene was intertwined with milk aroma and laughter. The participating students said that the trajectory of the milk foam flow during latte art is just like the vein of the Huangpu River, and every sip of mellow fragrance tastes the urban character of openness, innovation and inclusiveness.
As an important activity of the Taste the Tip of the Tongue section of the 2025 Shanghai Cultural Experience Month, through the three-dimensional form of Cultural Reading and Late Art Experience, students can touch the vivid fireworks in the dense coffee fragrance, reconstruct cultural cognition, and let cultural inheritance shift from knowledge input to emotional resonance, injecting youthful expression into Shanghai-style culture in the new era.
