On the morning of May 10, 2025, Professor Liu Meiping gave a special lecture entitled Research on China's International Shipping Safety and Security under the Situation of Global Economic Turbulence in the Bangjian Lecture Hall for the training activities of the 10th Inspirational College of Shanghai Maritime University.
At the beginning of the lecture, Mr. Liu explained to the students the importance of shipping safety to China's economic development and national security with a broad vision and vivid cases. By comparing the ancient Maritime Silk Road with the contemporary Belt and Road initiative, Mr. Liu emphasized that shipping is not only the main artery of international trade, but also the key support of the national strategy. When introducing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, Mr. Liu took the construction of Gwadar Port as an example to explain in simple terms how this strategic corridor can enhance China's shipping security and geo-economic influence, so that the students can deeply understand the strategic connotation of national transportation is tied to sea power.
The lecture focused on four major topics: the current international economic situation, the shipping game strategy implemented by the United States, the main factors affecting international shipping security, and the construction of China's shipping safety system. Through detailed data and the latest cases, Mr. Liu deeply analyzed the fluctuations and challenges of the international shipping market, and made the students realize that shipping safety is not only a military issue, but also a comprehensive game in science and technology, diplomacy, environment and other fields.
This lecture not only allowed the students to understand the importance of shipping safety, but also made everyone deeply feel the far-reaching significance of building a national maritime power. After the lecture, many students said that Mr. Liu's explanation was not only strategic, but also supported by empirical evidence, which stimulated everyone's strong interest in shipping safety and international strategy. It is believed that this lecture will inspire more students to pay attention to the national maritime rights and interests, devote themselves to the shipping industry in the future, and contribute to China's blue rise.
