On the afternoon of April 23, the School of Ocean Science and Engineering held a monthly lecture hall and a concentrated learning activity of political theory for teachers and students in the lecture hall of the scientific research building. Associate Professor Xu Bo of the School of Computer Science and Technology of Donghua University was invited to give a lecture, and all faculty members and student party members of the college participated. Wang Weiyi, Secretary of the Party Committee of the college, presided over the event.
Xu Bo shared the theme of Opportunities and Challenges of AI Technology Empowering Education. He systematically introduced the development history of AI, knowledge graph semantic network, language model training and reasoning logic from four aspects: the background of AI-enabled education, the opportunities and challenges of knowledge graph empowered education, the opportunities and challenges of large-scale model empowered education, and coping strategies and practical guides. In the sharing, Xu Bo also combined the example of AI course, focusing on teaching and demonstrating the application effect of AI technology in courseware design, exercise generation, course teaching assistant, etc. from the three dimensions of technical positioning, core principles and value proposition.
Secretary Wang Weiyi made a summary. He emphasized that as a college teacher in the context of AI in the new era: First, we must deeply understand the importance and urgency of the transformation of the role of college teachers in the era of artificial intelligence. Accelerate the transformation from experience-dependent to scientific decision-making thinking, educate and guide students to shift from passive learning to independent construction, and form a teaching atmosphere of human-machine collaboration and people-centered; Second, we should strive to become an active promoter and participant in the restructuring of roles and the transformation of the education ecology. It is necessary not only to correctly identify the knowledge points in the artificial field that AI can replace, but also to clearly understand the irreplaceable high-order cognitive shaping ability, value guidance ability, complex problem solving ability, emotional connection ability, academic leadership and many other abilities that AI cannot replace. Third, we must consciously improve the ability to control new technologies, interdisciplinary integration, lifelong learning, and cultural inheritance, undertake the mission of building a strong country in education, train senior marine professionals for the construction of a strong country in education and a maritime power, and provide marine science and technology support.
Dr. Bo Xu is an associate professor and deputy director of the Department of Information Technology, School of Computer Science and Technology, Donghua University. He graduated from Fudan University with a Ph.D. in Computer Software and Theory. His main research areas are knowledge graphs and large language models. The representative achievement is the creation of one of the largest Chinese open knowledge graphs: CN-DBpedia, with a cumulative API call of more than 1.6 billion. He has published nearly 30 papers at the top conference on artificial intelligence and databases (CCF-A/B), and published three academic monographs and textbooks. He has won the Outstanding Paper Award of the China Database Academic Conference (NDBC 2014). Selected into the Shanghai Youth Science and Technology Talent Sailing Program. He has presided over and participated in more than 10 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects such as the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The course Data Science Technology and Application was approved as a national first-class undergraduate course and was rated as a good teacher in my mind by Donghua University. He has served as the field chair of international conferences such as ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, CCKS, etc.
