From January 3 to 4, the second Forum of Young Scholars in the field of Waterway Transportation and Transportation Engineering was held in Shanghai. The forum was directed by the Engineering and Materials Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, hosted by Shanghai Maritime University, co-hosted by the School of Marine Science and Engineering, the School of Merchant Shipping and the School of Transportation of the University, and co-organized by Dalian Maritime University, Wuhan University of Technology and other relevant universities. President Chu Beiping, Vice President Shi Xin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor of Wuhan University of Technology Yan Xinping, Academician of Singapore Academy of Engineering and Professor of National University of Singapore Meng Qiang, Vice President of Wuhan University of Technology Zhang Di, former Party Secretary and Director of Maritime Administration of Ministry of Transport Cao Desheng, More than 350 experts and scholars including Fang Huaijin, former vice president of Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd. gathered to discuss the connotation and development direction of the discipline of waterway traffic and carrier engineering.
At the opening ceremony of the conference, Chu Beiping welcomed the leaders and experts on behalf of the school. He introduced the basic situation of Shanghai Maritime University, as well as the disciplinary characteristics and advantages of the school in the field of traffic and vehicle engineering. Chu Beiping pointed out that the forum provides an important exchange and discussion platform for the majority of young scholars to jointly discuss how to promote the better development of scientific research in the field of waterway transportation and carrier engineering in China, and achieve further breakthroughs in high-level talent training and project declaration in this field.
In the report, Academician Yan Xinping deeply analyzed the development trend of shipping industry at home and abroad, and comprehensively introduced the latest trends of waterway transportation technology, key problems faced and the development direction of ship technology in the future. He outlined the main hotspots of future ship technology, stressing that intelligence and green will be the two mainstream trends in ship development, and future ships not only need to have a higher level of intelligence, but also meet more stringent environmental protection requirements to meet the challenges facing the global shipping industry.
Academician Meng Qiang closely linked to the development trend of the shipping industry, based on artificial intelligence and big data models, in-depth analysis of the situation and challenges faced by ship risk assessment. In the report, he shared the status quo of the shipping industry and the key considerations of ship risk assessment, discussed the cutting-edge application trend of artificial intelligence models in risk assessment, and detailed the practical experience of relevant software prototype development, emphasizing that the evaluation framework based on artificial intelligence and big data is an important tool to improve ship risk assessment capabilities.
Cao Desheng pointed out that the new generation of ship traffic management system should rely on the land, sea, air and space integrated security system, with the help of communication and remote integration technology and massive data integration technology, to achieve a comprehensive coverage of water traffic big traffic management business needs, especially stressed the key of VTS system innovation, and proposed to speed up the construction and application of a new generation of VTS system. To support the hierarchical management of port, coastal and far-reaching sea areas.
Fang Huaijin thoroughly reviewed the background of the construction of automated terminals, introduced the achievements of automated container terminals in detail, and stressed the importance of technological innovation and independent research and development. He looked forward to the development trend and potential technological innovation of automated terminals in the future, emphasizing the key role of automated terminals in improving efficiency, reducing costs and promoting green development.
The Young Scholars Parallel Forum selected outstanding young scholars with the development potential of high-level innovative talents to make academic reports, and invited senior experts in the discipline to give comments and guidance, so as to feel the pulse of young scholars' research topics, achievements and development direction, and offer suggestions to accelerate the growth of outstanding young talents in the discipline and better serve the national strategic needs.
