On October 26, 2024, sponsored by Shanghai Academic Degrees Committee and co-sponsored by the Graduate School of Shanghai University, the College of Marine Science and Engineering and the Library, the 2024 Shanghai Graduate Academic Forum on Marine and Coastal City Safety was held at the University. Graduate School, School of Marine Science and Engineering and faculty representatives attended.

Yang Bin, Dean of the Graduate School, delivered an opening speech, welcoming experts and graduate students to the conference on behalf of the school. He introduced the general situation of graduate training and development of the school, hoping to build a multi-dimensional academic exchange platform through holding a graduate forum, strengthen academic exchanges among domestic peers, gather the essence of young scholars' ideas, expand research horizons and cognition, and enhance the thinking and collaborative innovation power of cutting-edge academic disciplines. To promote the development of the school maritime safety characteristic field research.

Feng Daolun, Dean of the School of Marine Science and Engineering, stated that the first level discipline of safety science and engineering at the school focuses on maritime safety research, aiming to deeply implement the requirements emphasized by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his inspection of Shanghai, namely comprehensively promoting the construction of resilient and safe cities, building a community of urban governance where everyone participates, takes responsibility, contributes, and shares. He hopes that through this academic forum, new academic ideas can be gathered.

The forum invited Professor Zhou Li from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Researcher Han Bing from Shanghai Institute of Shipping and Transportation Science, Professor Zhou Kuibin from Nanjing University of Technology and Professor Zhao Huanjuan from University of Science and Technology Beijing to focus on polar ship navigation performance and safety, ship navigation safety risk identification and development and application of the box platform, underwater gas pipeline leakage and diffusion behavior and surface combustion characteristics, and hydrogen in coastal cities He was able to safely and efficiently use the research of key technologies and other cutting-edge directions to give the keynote report of the forum, which triggered warm responses from teachers and students, and frequent on-site exchanges and interactions.

The forum will arrange four sub-sessions, covering the topics of Marine safety system engineering theory and method, coastal city disaster prevention and control technology, new development of Marine and coastal city emergency management, and new technologies of Marine and coastal city smart safety. The graduate students who participated in the report said that the forum provided a very high-quality and professional academic exchange platform, which not only broadened the academic horizon and improved the scientific research quality, but also provided more inspiration and methods for their own research direction, and experienced the fun brought by scientific research in the academic collision. In the four sub-venues of the forum, a total of 28 participating graduate students participated in academic exchanges through on-site forms. Among them, Wang Kai, Shi Culling, Xia Wenzheng and Gao Xuan from Shanghai Maritime University made on-site exchanges and speeches on the evolution characteristics of flowing fire in ship engine room, the mechanism of spontaneous combustion of Marine hydrogen fuel discharge, the application of deep learning technology in ship destination port prediction and the multi-modal physiological characteristics of port forklift operators.

Funded by the Construction Project of high-level local universities in Shanghai, the Forum has been held for five consecutive sessions, promoting the rapid development of school safety related disciplines and expanding social influence. This year's forum received a total of 68 papers submitted by postgraduates from Fudan University, Tongji University, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Ocean University, Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry, China Research Institute of Work Safety, Shanghai Fire Research Institute, Shanghai Maritime University and other institutions of higher learning. The content covers the research fields of safety science and engineering, Marine safety, transportation safety, logistics supply chain security and so on. 28 papers were selected from the best, and the representatives of the authors were reported and academic exchanges were conducted at the sub-conference, and 4 first prizes and 8 second prizes were selected as excellent papers.
