Coincating with the 16th World Ocean Day and the 17th National Ocean Publicity Day, the Coastal Watchmen youth volunteer team of the School of Marine Science and Engineering, together with the young volunteers of Xu Beihong Art College, carried out ecological wall painting and beach clearing and sea protection activities on the embankment of the East China Sea, contributing to the protection of Marine ecology.

In the ecological wall painting activity, volunteers turned into creative artists and splashed their brushes on the breakwater. Whales, turtles... A vivid picture of Marine ecological and environmental protection unfolds slowly in their pen. Every stroke, every stroke embodies their love and longing for the ocean. It attracts people who pass by to stop and stay, and some also take the initiative to join the ranks of painting, and use their talents with the volunteers to depict the ocean world in their hearts.

At the same time, the activities of clearing the beach and protecting the sea are also in full swing. Volunteers scoured the coastline, picking up every scrap. They are not afraid of dirty, not afraid of tired, with actions to interpret the respect and protection of the Marine environment. Volunteer Yang Yu Ang said that participating in the beach clearing activity made students more deeply aware of the importance of protecting the Marine environment. Looking at the students busy on the beach, the lead teacher, Xu Ling, felt heartfelt emotion: The students have interpreted the respect and protection of the Marine environment with practical actions, which is a valuable experience that we cannot teach them in the classroom, and will better inspire the Marine youth in the new era to continue to contribute to the cause of Marine ecology.

In recent years, the volunteer team of Coast Watchmen has based on the port and served Shanghai. With the advantage of the school's location and discipline development, under the guidance of teacher Yuan Rui from the Department of Marine Environment, the team has tapped social needs such as digital improvement of coastal management in scientific research practice, and enabled voluntary practice with technology. Digital twin technology is used to establish a model of coastal zones near ports, help relevant management departments solve and improve problems in Marine and coastal management, and provide technical support for disaster prevention and reduction and relief work in coastal zones.
