On the morning of December 18, Professor Hu Zhiqiang from the University of Newcastle visited our school. Feng Daolun, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of the college, attended the meeting.

Feng Daolun welcomed Professor Hu Zhiqiang's visit, thanked him for his efforts to promote the cooperation between the two universities in recent years, and introduced the development of the college and the construction of specialties and disciplines. He expressed the hope that the two sides will take this opportunity to continue to carry out in-depth inter-school international cooperation and jointly cultivate a new generation of Marine talents.

Hu introduced the city of Newcastle and the University of Newcastle, as well as the companies and enterprises related to Marine engineering located in the city of Newcastle, and said that the visit aims to promote the cooperation between the two sides in the Marine field.

The two sides exchanged views on the progress of the 2+2 cooperative education project planned by the College and the University of Newcastle in the early stage, and had an in-depth discussion on the teaching and training of students.

Subsequently, Professor Hu Zhiqiang gave a special report entitled "Floating wind turbines and Artificial Intelligence", introducing the research results of Newcastle University in the field of offshore wind power to teachers and students. He pointed out that operation and maintenance costs, especially labor costs, account for a large proportion of the cost composition of the wind power industry. Artificial intelligence, especially digital twin technology, has an important contribution to reducing labor costs. Through the digital twin technology, the simultaneous detection of engineering and environment can be realized. It is of great significance both to the Marine structure itself and to the surrounding Marine ecological environment.

Professor Zhiqiang Hu is the Lloyds Professor of Offshore Engineering and Head of the Department of Marine Technology at the School of Engineering, Newcastle University, UK. Deputy editor of the English SCI journal Ocean Engineering, member of the International Society of Ship Structural Mechanics (ISSC) V.6 Ocean Space Utilization, member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architecture. The main research areas include: Marine renewable energy (floating wind turbine); Dynamic response of ships and offshore structures; Ship collision and grounding.
