Recently, the General Office of the Ministry of Education issued the Notice on the publication of the 2021 National and Provincial first-class undergraduate Major Construction Site List. The environmental engineering major of the College of Marine Science and Engineering was successfully selected as the Shanghai municipal first-class undergraduate major construction site.
Environmental Engineering was established in 2005, and the first batch of undergraduates were recruited in 2006. The International Joint Research Sub-Center for Persistent Toxic Substances was established in 2008. In 2010, it was selected as the key discipline construction of the university, and in 2012, it was approved as the second-level master's program and doctoral program of transportation safety and Environmental Engineering.
In 2017, we will recruit students from overseas.
The department now has 22 teachers (including 5 experimental teachers), 3 of whom have won the title of provincial and ministerial talent Plan. More than 70% of the full-time teachers have overseas experience.
The construction of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission high - level characteristic project green port and navigation environmental science research base.
The major focuses on the strategy of shipping power and ocean power, docking the development needs of Shanghai International Shipping Center and green shipping, aiming at the trend of shipping internationalization and MARpollution prevention convention, the backbone course takes the lead in the construction of English-only teaching. Teachers of this major have won awards in English teaching competitions for many times.
The major has been approved for 11 times, including municipal key English courses, university-level English courses and university-level bilingual courses.
With the help of multi-level and high-level scientific innovation projects and discipline competitions for college students, the trinity talent training mode of basic experiment, practical teaching and scientific research practice has been constructed, which realizes the integration of teaching and scientific research, and highlights the cultivation of students' comprehensive practice and innovation ability.
In the past three years, students majoring in environmental engineering have won nearly 50 national and municipal science and technology innovation projects, and their participation in science and technology innovation has reached more than 80%. They have won awards in Internet +, Shanghai College Students' Chemistry Experiment Competition, Creation Cup, College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition and other activities (Figure 1).
The quality of graduate training has improved significantly. Every year, about 30% of the students take postgraduate courses, and many of them enter well-known universities such as Shanghai Jiaotong University, East China Normal University, HIT University of Technology and Chongqing University.
Relying on the characteristic research direction of Ship and sea, the environmental engineering major integrates ecological civilization education on the basis of maritime pollution prevention characteristics, and builds ideological and political teaching team. Many students have won prizes in ideological and political teaching competition.
The Party branch of the professional teaching staff has been successively selected as the demonstration Party organization of Shanghai Marine industry Pioneer of Water Control and Sea Control (Protecting Sea and Rejuvenating Sea), and the Studio of the Party Branch of Shanghai University with Double Leaders.
Environmental engineering major has been deeply involved in the field of ship and port pollution prevention and control, maritime hazard prevention and control management, etc. In recent years, more than 50 SCI papers have been published in the field of ship ballast water, ship exhaust gas, ship oil spill, ship sewage, coastal environment investigation, etc., and the company with the first completion has been awarded the third prize of Shanghai Technical Invention in 2020 (FIG. 2).
This time, the environmental engineering major was approved as the Shanghai first-class undergraduate major construction point, which is an important node in the professional development. The major will take this opportunity to continuously deepen the teaching reform, continuously promote the professional connotation construction, vigorously promote the engineering education professional certification, and comprehensively improve the quality of undergraduate talent training.
