Every summer, it is a golden time for the vast number of scientific researchers to gather their strength to carry out scientific research. At the beginning of the summer vacation, the College of Marine Science and Engineering made preparations and arranged the application of national funds for next year, encouraging the majority of teachers to concentrate on scientific issues and fully carry out pre-research. On the afternoon of July 14, 2020, Professor Xu Longbing from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics was invited by College of Marine Science and Engineering to deliver a report titled Exploration and Thinking on National Project Application for our teachers at the Tencent Conference. Chen Weijiong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive Vice President of the College of Ocean Science and Engineering, and Fan Runhua, Vice President of Scientific Research attended the meeting.

Professor Xu Longbing explained the key points in the application of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. This paper analyzes the typical problems in the process of fund writing from five aspects: the height of project selection, the research background and significance, the research content, the research foundation and the research team. Based on his own experience, Professor Xu introduced the possible problems and solutions in the process of project application. Professor Xu's lecture was humorous and rigorous, and the content was easy to understand and practical, which played a very good role in enlightening the fund application of teachers in our school. After the lecture, all the teachers actively discussed with Professor Xu and discussed the problems and puzzles in the fund application process, and Professor Xu patiently answered them respectively.

The School of Ocean Science and Engineering attaches great importance to organized scientific research. From 2016 to 2019, the number of approvals of the National Natural Science Foundation of China ranked first in the university, and the total number of approvals in the past four years ranked first in the university.
