In the current era of big data, data analysis capabilities have become a vital skill in public safety. In order to improve and promote the ability of our students to analyze public safety data, the college specially invited Dr. Jiang Jiang from the University of Maryland to come to the school for a one-week data analysis course on December 17-21, 2019.

In this course, Dr. Jiang Bo combined with his experience in global terrorism and piracy research, he will introduce the data acquisition process, data analysis methods, and the specific operation process of the tool. The main content of the course includes the spatio-temporal analysis of piracy attacks based on ArcGIS (upper, lower), piracy in the Malacca Strait and the South China Sea-testing from the perspective of daily activities, climate change, economic pressure and piracy, using the global terrorism database Trajectory analysis of maritime terrorist groups, and analysis of spatio-temporal terrorist attacks based on ArcGIS global terrorist database. The methods explained in the course include spatial econometrics, survival analysis, Bayesian statistics, social networking, risk modeling, machine learning, etc .; the database is free and open, the "University of Maryland Global Terrorist Attack" database and the "pirate incident" database . Mainly explained software such as ArcGIS. The first three days mainly focused on the theory of spatial data mining, and the fourth day mainly explained the spatial data analysis software Arcgis in detail. In the classroom, Dr. Jiang Bo taught in English throughout the course, and the course arrangement was compact and reasonable.

This time, 40 people participated in the course. During the course, everyone actively interacted with Dr. Jiang Bo, and the course atmosphere was active. Among them, 5 students performed outstandingly in the course study and the final coursework report, and obtained excellent students in the course. The teachers and students who participated in the course had very high appraisal of the course, and were very touched by Dr. Jiang Bo's active input and patient responsibility. Quantitative piracy analysis and policy recommendations based on piracy activity data are relatively rare worldwide. Most scientific research is more qualitative and policy research, and quantitative pirate data mining and analysis are rarely used. During his PhD study, Dr. Jiang Bo conducted a comprehensive analysis of pirate quantitative data through the self-built database and the IMO's pirate database. This course only shows part of its systematic research on pirates.

Dr. Jiang Bo teaches in English. For the questions and answers of the course, Dr. Jiang Bo supports Chinese and English questions. Dr. Jiang Bo answered in English. The curriculum is more diversified, enabling students to hear English lessons and also enabling students to learn.
