Professor Wu Guoxiong of University College London, an expert listed in the first batch of the National Thousand Talents Project, came to visit our college and delivered an academic report

Professor Wu Guoxiong visited the College of Marine Environment and Engineering on Jan.10th, 2013. He is a professor of computational fluid dynamics working at UCL and he is one of the first batch of National Thousand Talents Project. He was received by Professor Liu Wenbai, the Standing Vice President of our college, Professor Wu Xianghao and Professor Zhang Hongsheng from the Teaching and Research Section of Port and Shipping, as well as many other professors with great hospitality.Deep-going discussions on team and priority discipline building and international scientific research cooperation have been made with the set object of next stage cooperation.

At 2pm in the Teaching Area 3A103, Mr.Wu gave and academic lecture on the FEM Simulation of Nonlinear Interactions of Water Waves and Floating Structures. With the application of finite element method in fluid dynamics as its theme, the lecture consisted not only the finite element theory and the features of finite element method in fluid dynamics, but also the application of finite element theory in ideal fluid and viscous fluid. It ended with a number of examples on application encompassed in Mr.Wu’s own dissertation. The lecture proved to be a great success, as our students heaped praise on it.
Mr.Wu is a professor listed in the first batch of National Thousand Talents Project initiated by the Organization of the Department of the Central committee of the CPC. He is also a professor of Changjiang Forum and SMU. In 1986, he obtained his doctoral degree of Vessel and Marine Engineering in the University College London. He now works as the professor of London University and the research of British Vessel System Research Team. He is also a top expert of LRET. Over the years, he made comprehensive researches on fluid dynamics, especially its application in engineering. He is the top professor of the International Associated Research Center on Deepwater Engineering and Hydrodynamics co-founded by UCL, Shanghai Jiaotong University and  Haerbin Engineering University in 2010.
