I.  Program Introduction
 
The postgraduate mastery program of Hydrology and water resources started its recruitment in the autumn of 2010 as a key program of Shanghai Maritime University, specializing in research in water resources and water environment of alongshore sea area and Marine hydrological dynamic environment and numerical simulation ,Shipping and marine pollution control ,Marine safety and disaster prevention) and so on. This program is proud to have strong faculties, including 3 professors and 5 associate professors; plus 80 percent doctor degree owners (including post-doctorate), along with“Green harbor research base”and“Coastal water resources development and Protection Engineering Research Center”and the first-class research-related laboratory facilities. The program has been undertaking several national natural science funding projects, a number of scientific research projects of provincial and municipal government institutions, leading to winning the honor of provincial "Science and Technology Advancement Prize", publication of many works and paper, and acquisition of patents and the copyright of computer software .It is designed to educate for marine, water conservancy, environmental protection, port, shipping related municipal government institutions and course related department, companies in terms of science research , technical development ,design ,engineering and administrative management. 
 
II.  Program Objective
i .Should    be loving the motherland, law-abiding, honest, having a strong sense of professionalism and good character and quality, positive for the socialist construction with Chinese characteristic service
 
ii. Should be full development, morally, intellectually, and physically. Students should be expected to have a solid theoretical foundation and systematic professional knowledge and skills,  understand the development level of modern theory and application, be familiar with the dynamic of relational projects development  of  home and abroad in science research as well as mastery of a foreign language, including abilities of listening ,speaking ,reading, writing.
 
iii.The program aims for strict academic environment, honest and creative scientific spirit. Based on the characteristic of “The marine”within the research area of Hydrology and water resources, the program is designed to train advanced technical talents of marine, water conservancy, environment, resource, zoology, shipping, who have a abilities in science research and engineering technical , capable of charging independently in special technical , management and consultation and master general method of scientific research and engineering practice. In addition, students are also required to familiarize themselves with modern information techniques, as well as good computer and information management skills.

Description
Literature reading:
According to research direction, the graduate students should read a certain amount of domestic and foreign materials with the tutor’s science research and the need of the dissertation, to grasp the research frontier of the subjects development.
 
 
 
VI.Postgraduate Education for Practical Applications
 
The program of Hydrology and water resources lays much emphasis on practice, and therefore, the education of practical application is quite reflective of the postgraduate education. It would be ideal to design course on the basis of academic teaching, while emphasizing the cultivation of practical and inter-discipline talents.
The course is designed to provide students with familiarization of scientific and engineering project standard and procedures, and opportunity of practicing scientific research and practical capability, through the study of participation of research of project demonstration, site investigation, monitoring experiment, field test and engineering design and education practice. The program lays much emphasis on training by to solve science and engineering problems of professional skills in mathematical method and means of modern science and technology , through the study and use of marine hydrodynamic numerical model, water environment numerical model, statistics and decision model, GIS software, mathematical method and means of modern science and technology. Pay attention to the combination of research methods, designed to cultivate students to join the project technology and industrial production in the first line of science dedication and creation consciousness.
